RTS is a gesture to rethinking premises underlying our interactions with the natural world and each other – not just to find a holistic way of thinking, but a proper method of exploring it. Drawing from a rich foundation of those who were not afraid to take a stand for that in which they believed, the work examines not only how we use aesthetics to interpret the world, but the way in which modernity has framed our ability to give credence and character to the animate landscape itself. We can seek out the lessons found in the rolling prairie winds, the soft rains of gladelands, and the dense whispering of insects among shadowy thickets where, just as in our own urban ecologies, many pieces work together and all must be valued and given care.
M Dane Zahorsky has been exploring the spirit of art, place, and community in the Midwest for over a decade and has worked as an artist, lecturer, community organizer, and teacher with communities at home and as far away as Beijing, Guatemala, and Roma.
